Medication Management

One

A young girl responsibly taking her prescribed pills with a glass of water, a crucial aspect of psychiatric care.

Medications can be an integral part of mental health treatment. While many patients can be helped with therapy alone, medications can be an important adjunct to improving overall functioning, finding relief, and recovering a healthier day-to-day quality of life.

  • I am trained in the latest psychopharmacological interventions and use medications conservatively to help patients.

I see patients for medication management alone (as a consultant to other therapists), as well as for combined therapy and medication management.

If medications are indicated, I will review with you the rationale for recommending medications, as well as: indications, anticipated benefits, potential side effects, alternative treatments, drug interactions, length of time needed for treatment and other relevant information.

I encourage patients to ask questions about any medication(s) that may be prescribed in the course of treatment, and to find well-validated sources for additional information.

Non-Medication Treatment for Depresssion

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive procedure is used to treat certain mental health conditions, particularly major depressive disorder (MDD). It involves the use of a magnetic field to stimulate specific areas of the brain.

  • Recognized as a safe and well-tolerated treatment option for patients who have not responded adequately to traditional antidepressant medications, TMS offers an alternative relief from depression without the side effects commonly associated with medication.

The goal of TMS is to regulate and restore the brain's neural circuits that may be disrupted. By targeting specific brain regions involved in mood regulation, TMS aims to alleviate depressive symptoms and to improve overall mental well-being.

Let’s discuss the potential benefits, risks, and suitability of TMS as a treatment option for you.

Addiction & substance abuse treatment

Two people holding hands, exemplifying the importance of supportive relationships in mental health treatment.

I take a whole-person approach to addiction treatment. At times, substances can be used to mitigate the underlying symptoms of a mental health disorder. Other times, mind-altering substances were a means of escaping the emotional pain of life events.

Whatever the source of your struggle with substances, you and I will work together from a place of compassion, openness, and sensitivity to your pace and comfort zone.

  • Whether you and I are working on a substance abuse issue or an outpatient detox protocol, I take into consideration many different variables. I don’t focus on the addiction alone—I also consider the social circumstances, support systems, and motivations for change.

I provide Detoxification and Medication Assisted Treatment medications including suboxone, naltrexone/vivitrol, etc. to reduce or eliminate cravings, as well as treating other co-occurring disorders that may be related to your mental health condition.

Ketamine

A close-up of a person undergoing a ketamine treatment, showcasing an innovative psychiatric intervention.

A novel and potentially effective treatment option for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) or major depressive disorder (MDD), Ketamine therapy has brought new rays of hope for patients who have not responded to traditional antidepressant medications.

  • Ketamine can be administered through intravenous (IV) infusion, intranasal spray, or sublingual (under the tongue) administration.

Intramuscular Ketamine offers rapid relief, helps alleviate depressive symptoms and provides a sense of calm and clarity.

Intravenous administration has shown remarkable success in rapidly lifting the weight of depression, often leading to improved mood, increased energy, and a renewed sense of hope.

Sublingual administration allows for efficient absorption of ketamine into the bloodstream, providing a convenient and effective option.

Let’s explore the potential benefits of ketamine therapy and determine the most suitable approach for your unique needs.
